Overview
Dual Translate is a free, open browser extension for bilingual webpage translation. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- No personal information (name, email, etc.)
- No browsing history or page content
- No analytics or tracking
- No cookies
- No advertising data
Data Stored Locally
The following data is stored only on your device using Chrome's local storage API. It is never transmitted to any server:
- API keys — Your own DeepL and Microsoft API keys, if you choose to enter them.
- Preferences — Target language, translation mode (viewport/full page).
- Usage counters — Monthly character counts per API provider, used to manage free tier limits.
Third-Party Services
When you use the extension, text from the current webpage is sent to the translation API you have configured:
- Google Translate (default) — Google Privacy Policy
- DeepL (optional) — DeepL Privacy Policy
- Microsoft Translator (optional) — Microsoft Privacy Statement
Text is sent directly from the extension to these APIs. No data passes through our servers.
Permissions
- activeTab — Read the current page to translate its content.
- storage — Save your preferences and API keys locally.
- contextMenus — Add "Translate selection" to the right-click menu.
